The “Rioja vintages list” provides the consumer with information about those elements that he/she should know about the optimum time to consume Rioja red wines aged in barrels, and provides guidance on the general characteristics of each vintage year. The newly edited list includes the 10 latest vintage harvests and all previous vintages that have been described as either very good or excellent since the creation of the PDO in 1925. Each vintage harvest is listed with the category or categories normally found on the market at the time of the publication of the vintage list, which will be reviewed annually.
The corresponding evaluations for each vintage have been carried out following the results of the Phase II of the Quality Plan applied by the Regulatory Council for the quality control of the commercialization phase and the individual evaluations given by the expert wine tasters who are members of the Appeal Committee. No hierarchical classification has been established amongst the different vintages, but visually attractive pictograms provide basic information that serves to assess the best time for consumption of each vintage.
